Imaging Workflow

The imaging workflow describes how images and image data can progress through the application in a common stepwise manner. All images will either be captured or loaded into the software, visualized in some manner, and then processed, adjusted, or measured in some way. Many steps have multiple options and are represented by (a) and (b) scenarios. Use this page to help identify where a step in your workflow may exist and the help topics available to you.

1a) 2D Capture

If using Image-Pro to control hardware and view or capture live images.

  1. Most tools are available from the Capture Tab

  2. Digital Camera Control for capturing still images, timelapse, or streaming

  3. Live Process & Analysis for actions like Live Compare, EDF, Tiling, and HDR

  4. Light Source Control for fluorescent image viewing and capture with LED-based light sources

  5. Real-Time Deconvolution for improving fluorescent image resolution while viewing live or capturing

1b) Image Management & 2D Display

If using Image-Pro to work with previously captured images that need to be loaded into the application.

  1. File format support

  2. Complex Set Import

  3. Calibration & meta data read/edit

  4. 2D views such as Z, Time, Tiling, Surface, nD Sets, and Well Plates

  5. Annotations, ROI, and Grid Masks

1c) 3D Visualization

If using Image-Pro to view and work with previously captured 3D image stacks.

  1. Most tools are available from the 3D View Tab and 3D Animation Tab

  2. Viewing of image stacks as a 3-dimensional volume, across multiple channels, and over time and sites

  3. Viewing a 2D slice of a 3D view at ortho and oblique angles

  4. 3D Key Frame Animations

2a) Processing & Adjustment

When images need to be edited or adjusted to view them in a more accurate representation or as a preliminary pre-processing step

  1. Most tools are available from the Process Tab

  2. Pseudo-Color, Brightness-Contract-Gamma, and Image resize/rotate

  3. 2D Filters, and FFTs

2b) Deconvolution

If working with fluorescent images, this is a processing step for improving resolution and contrast before visualization or measurement

  1. 2D & 3D Deconvolution of fluorescent images

  2. Advanced settings for smoothing, Z sub-volumizing, and PSF Constraints

3a) 2D Measurements

If working with 2D images that need point-to-point measurements

  1. Most tools are available from the Measure Tab

  2. Line measurements, Tracing, Line Profile, Caliper, Intensity

3b) 2D Automated Analysis

If working with 2D images that need segmentation-based area measurements

  1. Most tools are available from the Count/Size Tab

  2. Object & Region segmentation, classification, and Tracking over time

3c) 3D Analysis

If working with 3D images that need point-to-point measurements or segmentation-based area measurements

  1. Most tools are available from the 3D Measure Tab

  2. Object & Volume segmentation, classification, and object filtering

4) Data Collection & Analytics

When there is a need to collect and aggregate data from the analysis of multiple images

  1. Most tools are available from the Review Tab

  2. Data Collection, viewing and display from single for multiple images in the Data Collector

5) Reporting

When there is a need to use Image-Pro for the creation of reports

  1. Most tools are available from the Review Tab

  2. Measurement Data, Statistics, Graphs, and Images displayed in a custom report

6) Export

If needing to move data outside of the Image-Pro application for use in another application.

  1. Most tools are available from the Review Tab

  2. Send measurement and statistical data from tables to various external targets including Excel

7) Auditing

If needing to track the history of image edits or application use by user

  1. Most tools are available from the Review Tab

  2. Electronic audit trail with records of images and users across sessions

8) Scripting

When a custom workflow or combination of tools is required to achieve a unique outcome or improve efficiency

  1. Most tools are available from the Scripting Tab or the Scripting Workbench

  2. Record a macro as you click, build a custom app, or batch process using a macro

9) Licensing

  1. Link an Image-Pro license to a local computer or USB dongle

  2. Link one or multiple licenses of Image-Pro to a License Server
